ECO ANNOUNCES A WNC GREEN BUILDING TOUR IN CONJUNCTION WITH SEEEXPO

As energy costs skyrocket and residents become increasingly concerned with how their energy usage effects the environment, ECO is hosting its second annual Green Building Tour to showcase the best in green homes in our region to encourage new green construction and green home retrofitting.  The tour will include 5-6 homes some of which are new construction and at least one formerly “brown” home that was converted to become highly energy efficient.  Green building, or sustainable design, increases the efficiency by which buildings use energy, water, and materials, and reduces impacts on human health and the environment over the entire life cycle of the building. Since so much of conventional construction is petroleum-based, moving toward green building through the use of more natural and more local materials protects ecosystems, improves air quality (both outside and within the home), reduces runoff and sedimentation into our streams and conserves our natural resources.  This event is run by ECO, the Environmental and Conservation Organization, which for over 20 years has been working to preserve and conserve the local environment.

The Green Building Tour is scheduled from 10-4 on Saturday, August 22nd.  Tickets may be purchased at the ECO office at 121 Third Ave West, Hendersonville, NC 28792 or on-line at www.eco-wnc.org.
